Item #: SCP-0000

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-0000 is contained in situ at the location of its discovery. The item is to remain under surveillance at all times.

In the event that any significant changes in SCP-0000's status are noted, a lockdown of Site-120's east wing is to be initiated, and pertinent research personnel are to be made aware immediately.

Description: SCP-0000 is an elongated mass measuring roughly three meters long by one meter in height and width possessing uncertain composition thought to be traveling backwards through time from an unknown point in the future. Consequently, spacetime immediately surrounding SCP-0000 is severely distorted, causing temporal sheering with any physical surface the item comes into contact with.

The spatial distortion surrounding SCP-0000 makes detailed analysis of the item unfeasible, however since its initial discovery (see below) the distortion's intensity has been noted to occasionally fluctuate. During times of lessened distortion, the form of SCP-0000 becomes more easily observable, allowing brief examination of its true form. Of these, the following has been noted regarding the item:

  • The item's composition appears to consist of an unidentified metallic substance.
  • The surface of SCP-0000 is covered in a series of intricate patterns and possibly writing1.
  • Personnel in close proximity of SCP-0000 for extended periods of time have reported occasional audible hallucinations, primarily in the form of faint whispers or radio static.

Whether SCP-0000 itself or an unidentified external force is facilitating the temporal retrogression remains unclear, as do the potential consequences of SCP-0000 reaching the endpoint of its transit.

Discovery: SCP-0000 was discovered on 10/8/1982 after a spacetime rupture was detected in an empty containment chamber in Site-120's eastern wing. Shortly after the area was secured, the rupture began to expand, culminating in a burst of intense radiation and hume fluctuations of up to 97.4 humes which destabilized adjacent units and nearly caused multiple SCP items to breach containment.

Following immediate repairs to the Site and the full stabilization of SCP-0000, the item assumed its present appearance as an elongated distortion suspended in midair.

Incident 0000.1: 3/27/2017 marked the beginning of a gradual decrease in the temporal distortion surrounding SCP-0000.

This decrease afforded more detailed examination of SCP-0000, allowing a clearer view of the item's surface. In addition to the detection of a variety of tubes, panels, and unidentified apparatuses, a symbol identified as the insignia of the Department of Temporal Anomalies was found to be engraved on SCP-0000's surface along the item's central axis. No records of an anomaly or development project matching SCP-0000's description are known to exist, suggesting the item was likely intentionally set on its current course by a future iteration of the SCP Foundation.

Moreover, the steady weakening of SCP-0000's distortion field indicates that the item may be approaching a critical point in its temporal retrogression. Current models project that it will "arrive" by early July of 2024.

Incident 0000.2: On 7/3/2024, SCP-0000's temporal distortion dispersed completely. During this time, Site-120 had initiated lockdown and SCP-0000's containment unit was under heavy observation. The room was cleared and sealed, with adjacent containment units being preemptively reinforced.

At approximately 05:00 local time, the distortion field had finished dispersing, causing SCP-0000 to fall to the ground with considerable impact. No additional phenomena were recorded at this time, including hume fluctuations, radiation emissions, or even significant temperature changes in SCP-0000's unit or any adjacent cells. After the chamber was deemed safe for entry, on-site security entered to examine the item more closely. A portion of SCP-0000's exterior appeared to have sustained deep lacerations and punctures across its length at some point, partially compromising the hull's integrity.

As personnel approached, a digital display screen appeared on the lid of SCP-0000, displaying the following information:

Foundation,

If you are reading this message, it means that this last resort of ours has borne fruit. With the combined skill of each and every remnant of our shrinking reservoir of knowledge and our dwindling resources have we managed to construct this device to bear to you the greatest bounty we can give: a second chance.

Humanity stands at the precipice of a crisis beyond the boundary of even our comprehension, a cataclysm of body, and mind, and conception itself. We couldn't have seen it coming, and by the time we did know what was happening, it was far too late to act. It hit hard, and it hit fast, and it won. We were too slow to act, but you might still have time.

Contained herein is our last chance, the last one of us left untouched who may yet forestall what is to come, or at the very least give humanity a fighting chance; he will be the key to everything. You may wonder if saving yourselves will save us, if time really works like that. The answer requires a deeper elucidation, but we assure you that both of our best interests are at stake here.

We're putting our faith in you. The fate of both of our futures now rests on your collective shoulders.

Save. Correct. Prevent.
— Dr. Athena Anastasakos, Head of Applied Sciences Division

After present agents confirmed the terminal's message, SCP-0000 opened. Due to the aforementioned damage, the interior had been subject to the conditions of the temporal transit, causing considerable damage and temporal sheering within. SCP-0000's interior contained mechanotemporal components and a small pod, which opened shortly after. This life pod contained a human male of indeterminate ethnicity wearing a temporally-corroded safety suit bearing the RCT-Δt insignia. Subject was deceased.

Further investigation regarding SCP-0000 and its contents are pending.
