PDB 2qss EBI is in the Public Domain.
Vesta darkside is in the Public Domain courtesy of NASA.
Vesta, the location of VOS-01, photographed prior to the outpost's construction.
ITEM #: SCP-0000
OBJECT CLASS: Pending
SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES: A review of Vesta Observational Site-01's security and residential recordings as well as an analysis of the Site's surroundings is to being conducted until such time that exact details regarding SCP-0000 can be sufficiently corroborated and defined. These files and analyses are to be restricted to Dr. Saberstein and other personnel managing this investigation until further notice.
DESCRIPTION: SCP-0000 denotes a series of anomalous phenomena that manifested around Vesta Observatory-01 on 4 Vesta from late 2026 to early 2028. SCP-0000 was characterized by several anomalous elements over the course of Researcher (name)'s observations while they were isolated at the Site. (See below.)
ADDENDUM 0000.1: Around midnight on 8/3/2024, a component in Vesta Observatory-01's communications system malfunctioned and began echoing the Site's check-in ping at its standard intervals while preventing any alterations to outgoing signals. This effectively severed the Site's contact with other Foundation locations and resulted in the isolation of Researcher (name) at the outpost for (X) days. Shortly after (name) lost contact, SCP-0000 activity began.
Over the course of his time there, (name) studied SCP-0000 and documented his findings through several video logs and text documents. These have been compiled and are available below.
Video Log 029
This is Researcher (name), recording this message at, uh, (time, date). I'm not completely certain as to why but it seems that this Site— uh, Vesta Observational Site-01, has lost contact with this sector's command. I am recording this report as per protocol, and to help o-organize my thoughts.
I'm going to examine the communications array shortly to see if I can determine the cause of the disconnect. I will report my findings afterwards.

RECORDING PAUSED, THEN RESUMED

Th-the wiring on the central array is, uh, corroded. I'm not sure what from, some unanticipated chemical reaction with Vesta's atmosphere perhaps? But whatever the case, the wiring is shot. I checked storage and I, well… I just don't have enough. There's just too little spare material to replace it. (Sigh.) I'm going to make this work, there has to be something around here that I can use.
I'll check back in a bit. For now, I've got to figure out if there's any tech around here I can salvage without taking down the whole station. Until then.
Video Log 030
I tried everything. The lighting system, one of the smaller rovers, even the damn dishwasher, and none of them had the right material! All I need is one damn meter of the correct wiring, is that too much to ask?
Phew. I've got to stay cool, I'll be completely screwed if I don't keep calm at a time like this.
I'm going to look into the systems further and see if there's another means through which I can broadcast a signal to command. Worst case, I wait a few weeks before they realize I'm not sending my code-green signal, then they'll send someone down to check in and see why. I'll get through this, I know I will.
I have to.
Video Log 032
(Several minutes of silence with intermittent huffs of breath are heard before (name)'s begins speaking.)
So the, uh code-green signal, was in the middle of broadcasting when the corrosion chewed through the wiring. Because of the timing the signal got, um, stuck in the array, you could say, and now its echoing out at its preset interval. As far as command can tell, there's nothing wrong with VOS-01, just business as usual. Every fail-safe this place had to prevent something like this has failed.
(Two more minutes of quiet breathing.)
I don't want to die.
Video Log 033
Good news is that I'm not going to starve. For now, at least. The Site's nutrient cycling systems are working normally, which means nothing, and I unfortunately mean nothing will go to waste. Water and air filtration systems are working as well. As long as nothing breaks. (He knocks on the tabletop.) Knock on wood.
I've been trying things to pass the time as I try to think of some way out of this. Books, music, less savory feats, and lots of sleep. I even browsed the SCP database, or at least what I had downloaded when I disconnected. Did you know those fuckers found a Taco Bell on the Moon? Why couldn't I have been stationed there?
…there'd at least be company.
Video Log 034
The worst part is the silence. It was relaxing when I was first assigned here, "some nice alone time," I thought, but now I know just how eerie the total absence of another person can be. I've tried to make conversation with the system A.I. but the geniuses that built this place neglected to give it a personality matrix.
I hadn't thought about god for a long time before now.
I wonder if he can hear me out here.

Surveillance Video Log Transcript
[RECORDING EXCERPT BEGINS]
(The northern exterior of VOS-01 is visible as the excerpt begins. After a moment of apparent stillness, the sediment besides the building begins to stir and coalesce into three humanoid forms of average height. They rise and approach a window on the structure. The three figures remain roughly two meters from the window, swaying gently.)
(The feed switches to an interior camera located within (name)'s room. He is reclined on his bed, browsing files on a tablet. After several minutes, he sets the tablet on the bed and sits up. (name) swipes through several pages before stopping on a diagram of a human; the details cannot be made out. (name) crosses his legs and begins to whisper indiscernably.)
((name) sights the instances outside the window, enters a panicked state, and flees. Outside, the entities step back from the window and slouch, then quickly collapse into piles dust. The Site enters lockdown, after which no further activity is detected.)
[END LOG]
Video Log 036
(Deep sigh.) I didn't imagine that the next person I would see after all this time would be looking in at me from the vacuum of space, so you'll have to excuse my outburst. One minute I'm sitting on my bed when all of a sudden I see five faceless ghosts are standing right outside my window just watching me. Naturally, I shit my pants and bolted to the control room to initiate lockdown. I came out a few hours later and they were gone. I checked external surveillance video, and it picked them up, so I know I'm not going crazy. As soon as I ran they just dissolved into some kind of dust.
I'm going to deploy a rover to collect a sample of the dust or ectoplasm, or whatever the hell I'm supposed to call this stuff and run some tests once I clean myself up. Thank god for that nutrient cycler.
Video Log 037
Ok, I've got to keep my head on straight. Things aren't as scary when they're in a clinical tone, right? God, I'm starting to sound like the doc. Anyway,
Item #: SCP-00001
OC: Euclid (probably??)
Conprocs: pending
Desc: SCP-0000-1 is a substance found in 97% of dust I sampled in the vicinity of Vesta Observatory-01. This substance contains a combination of zinc phosphate, hemoglobin, and acetylcholine chemically bonded into a single molecule. Due to its exceedingly complex and majorly organic nature, I do not believe it to have occurred naturally. Moreover, as determined by local sedimentary analysis, SCP-0000-1 has likely only recently settled on Vesta's surface, and was likely deposited onto the body no more than 2500 years ago.
The origins of SCP-0000-1 remain unknown.
SCP-0000-2 are entities composed of SCP-0000-1. Their function, origin, and purpose remains unknown.
A chemical structure model of whatever the hell these things are made of.
I suppose I never was one for perfect tone, but all I need are the basics right now. It's not like anyone else is around to get upset over it.
A lot of unknowns, though. I might as well learn what I can, document what I find. I plugged the chemical scan into the Site A.I. and it spat this model back out at me. I can work with this. This could take a while, but hey,
I've got all the damn time in the world.
Video Log 038
They showed up again today.
I was in the dining chamber reading up on some old docs and looked up in time to see the dust swirling outside the window. Still made my heart race of course, but this time I had some idea of what was happening. There were five of them, all facing towards me, shifting around all wispily as if there was a breeze outside.
I just sat there and watched them. Eventually they began to move, slowly walking around, making weird hand signs, one even knelt down for a few minutes. After a while I got up to get a drink, and by the time I returned there were five small piles of that pale dust where they had been. Gone as quick as they came.
There has to be a some kind of parameter to make these entities manifest. By all accounts, there were no records of anything like this happening on Vesta prior to my stationing here. Whatever the trigger is, it's got something to do with me. I'll get to the bottom of this, one way or another.
Video Log 039
The hand signs. Something about them seems familiar, like something I may have glanced in the documents I've been reading over recently. The surveillance footage is too low quality for the A.I. to process so I'm going to have to pour back through the mountain of documents myself and see if I can find any matches.
It's gonna be a long night.
