Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard item containment locker at Site-17. SCP-XXXX's keyboard is to be wiped clean daily.

UPDATED CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES [see Addendum XXXX-01]:

SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a maximum-security containment vault at Site-17. SCP-XXXX's keyboard must be wiped clean daily. Weekly internal examinations are to be conducted to monitor for damage to SCP-XXXX, and any damage repaired. Any observed deviations from normal SCP-XXXX behavioural patterns are to be immediately noted and reported to active senior staff accordingly.

SCP-XXXX's containment chamber, along with the entirety of Site-numbers, must be under surveillance. No videos of young child prodigy musicians are to be played within the boundaries of Site-numbers.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an upright piano of the [REDACTED] make, and is physically identical to a non-anomalous upright piano. SCP-XXXX can be played normally, without the occurence of any anomalous effects.

SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous property is that it will autonomously play any piece of music whenever the corresponding music sheets are placed upon its music rack, with roughly 95% technical accuracy. In addition, SCP-XXXX's response to different pieces of music are variable. For example, it will occasionally "improvise" cadenzas during a playing session [see SCP-XXXX Extended Testing Log]. SCP-XXXX has also been observed playing music while completely unattended.

SCP-XXXX's secondary anomalous property is that it will secrete a clear fluid from in between its keys. This secretion is usually observed when SCP-XXXX is not in the vicinity of human beings for prolonged periods of time. Laboratory analysis has revealed that the fluid is a saline solution, of 6mg/ml sodium chloride concentration. Examination of its interior has revealed no glands or structures that would facilitate such secretion of fluid.

SCP-XXXX was recovered from a curiosity store in [REDACTED], Northumberland, United Kingdom, on 22/03/2016 where it had gained a minor reputation as a self-playing "magic piano". The piano was identified as having been sold to the store by the ██████ family two years prior to its recovery, after the [DATA EXPUNGED] of their 13-year-old daughter, █████. The ██████ family has since relocated to ██████ and is currently residing there.

Addendum XXXX-01: (██/██/2016) SCP-XXXX breached containment at 6:59 PM. Surveillance footage depicts SCP-XXXX apparently spontaneously relocating itself from inside its containment chamber to the Site-17 lounge area, directly above Dr. Frances Seward, who was watching a YouTube video titled "The Next Mozart? 6 Year Old Piano Prodigy Wows All". SCP-XXXX was then observed to drop onto Dr. Seward, resulting in serious physical injury including severe fractures. SCP-XXXX was then observed to have vanished directly afterward.

SCP-XXXX was later found in stall 4 of the womens' restroom beside the lounge, producing saline solution at a higher rate than the norm. SCP-XXXX was safely recovered and transported to higher security containment. SCP-XXXX was placed in its usual position in the centre of the containment chamber.

Dr. Seward has since been hospitalized and is expected to be able to resume her duties at Site-17 on ██/██/201█.

Addendum XXXX-02: (██/██/2016) SCP-XXXX and its containment vault were re-examined under supervision of Site-17 security personnel.

SCP-XXXX was noted to have shifted from its original postion in the center of the vault to the far left corner. SCP-XXXX was also positioned with its front facing the corner. Stains on the surface of the keyboard indicate that it had been producing saline solution prior to examination.

Most notably, SCP-XXXX did not produce the expected response when sheet music was placed onto its music rack. The exact reasons for this is currently unknown. Testing has been suspended indefinitely.
