SCP-XXXX and the pool it feeds into.

Special Containment Procedures: The area surrounding SCP-XXXX has been purchased by a Foundation front company and enclosed by a fence marked as private property. Civilians attempting to breach this perimeter are to be caught and turned away. Entrance into SCP-XXXX is forbidden without prior approval from the Senior Researcher.

Civilians exiting SCP-XXXX-1 are to be detained and assessed on a case-by-case basis. If possible, surgical correction of anomalies followed by amnesticization and release is permitted.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small waterfall located in the Alps in north-western Slovenia, fed from a pool to the north as part of an unnamed stream.1 An individual descending through the waterfall will be transported to SCP-XXXX-1.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a topographically inconsistent extra-dimensional space consisting of mountainous terrain similar to the region surrounding SCP-XXXX, extending indefinitely in every direction. The mountain descends to the south, with the water flow from SCP-XXXX forming a continuous chain of waterfalls, streams and pools. Mountain peaks are visible to the north, though it is unknown if they are reachable.

The nature of the terrain begins to change further away from the entry point into SCP-XXXX-1, with these changes becoming more extreme with increased distance. These anomalies are first observed in the plants and animals present, but gradually extend to the landscape itself. Some commonly cited examples of the observed differences include:

  • Leaves on plants becoming increasingly purple in colouration.
  • Trees and bushes bearing unusual fruits.
  • Birds with tails that resemble those of a fish.
  • A mammal resembling a wild boar, with six legs and horns.
  • Patches of terrain pocked with perfectly circular holes containing whirlpools.
  • Rocks and the surrounding ground made up of various metals and glass instead stone.

Consumption of the anomalous plants and animals in SCP-XXXX-1 leads to morphological changes in the human body. These changes typically take the form of the development of additional organs (both internal and external), alterations to bone structure, alterations to senses and changes in musculature.

An undetermined period of time after entering SCP-XXXX-1 (currently observed to be between 5 and 67 months), individuals will spontaneously exit SCP-XXXX-1 and emerge at a point on a line projecting south from SCP-XXXX. The exact position appears to be related to the amount of time spent in SCP-XXXX-1; in extreme cases this line has been observed to circle the globe. All available information on SCP-XXXX-1 has been obtained from civilians exiting SCP-XXXX-1 in this way.

To date, 113 civilians have been retrieved after exiting SCP-XXXX-1. It is estimated that approximately 80 civilians, along with MTF Sigma-13 (who entered SCP-XXXX-1 for exploration purposes before its nature was completely understood) remain inside.

Incident XXXX/1
On 29/06/2015 civilians exiting SCP-XXXX-1 were retrieved as standard. The changes found in these civilians were minor enough to be corrected by surgery, allowing for release; following the administration of amnestics one of the civilians, now classified AE-XXXX-1, immediately became aware of a number of repressed memories relating to SCP-XXXX. It is unknown what caused this reaction2, but is theorised to be related to the alterations suffered during their time in SCP-XXXX-1.

Due to the unexpected nature of the event no recording devices were present; personnel present at the time summarised the details as follows:

  • AE-XXXX-1 spent most of their time in SCP-XXXX-1 restrained to a table or other surface.
  • An entity or entities was responsible for the alterations to their body, and that the process was extremely painful.
  • The entity was described as "faceless".

Almost immediately afterwards, AE-XXXX-1 entered a catatonic state, and has yet to recover.

Incident XXXX/2
On 23/12/2016, MTF Sigma-13 exited SCP-XXXX-1 and were recovered. Despite following their mission parameters requiring them to remain close to the entrance of SCP-XXXX-1 for the duration of their time within (meaning they encountered no non-standard plant or animal life), all four members of the team suffered significant morphological changes.

Following Incident XXXX/1, it was considered that given the memetic implants and general mental training that MTF Agents receive, more information might be retrieved from them. Interview XXXX/14 contains the results of the first attempt.

Interview XXXX/14
Interviewer: Specialist Karl Hammond
Interviewee: Agent Sadie Marrison (MTF Sigma-13)
Notes: Agent Marrison was given a combination of drugs and put into a hypnotic state by Specialist Hammond; opening portions of the interview involving the induction of the hypnotic trance have been removed.

Hammond: Okay, you're in the pool above SCP-XXXX. The water is cold. You're moving towards the waterfall, and now you are travelling down it. Where are you?

Marrison: I've landed in the pool below. It's deep. Deeper than I expected.

Hammond: Swim to the edge. What do you see around you?

Marrison: Rocks, loose gravel. The next waterfall. Trees. Edwards has just landed in the pool. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Hammond: The rest of your team has joined you now. Your equipment is all there. What happens next?

Marrison: Peck has ordered us to set up camp near some trees. There's a flat area away from the pool. I'm cold. I need to change out of my wetsuit.

Hammond: Tell me more about your surroundings. Do you hear or smell anything?

Marrison: Birds. I can hear a bird chirping.

Hammond: Focus on the sound of the bird. Describe it to me.

Marrison: It sounds like a bird. It's… no. No, it sounds wrong. Metallic. Hollow. My um, my leg hurts.

Hammond: Look down at your leg.

Marrison: There's something on it. It's trapped. My other leg is too. I'm, I'm strapped to a table! My arms are stuck too! Get these off me!

Hammond: Relax. Listen to the sound of my voice. You're safe here.

Marrison: Right, right.

Hammond: Look around. Tell me what you see.

Marrison: I'm shackled to a table. It's cold, metal. I'm… my clothes are gone. It's dark, I think I'm in a room. I don't see the others. There's a dim light in the distance. Hello? Is someone there?

Hammond: Do you see anyone?

Marrison: No, there's nobody. I'm alone. Wait, no, someone is coming.

Hammond: Can you describe them to me?

Marrison: They're, it's all wrong. Too many arms. No no no it's, I can't look at it. All wrong. Get away from me. Get me out of here!

Agent Marrion's reaction interrupted the session, and she required some time to compose herself. She described a non-humanoid entity approximately two meters tall, with an irregularly shaped torso, no discernible head, and "at least a dozen" arms distributed apparently randomly around its body. Approximately two hours later, the session resumed.

Hammond: Let's move forwards a little. Is that okay?

Marrison: Uh yeah, yeah.

Hammond: What happened the next time you saw this life-form.

Marrison: I feel like it was a long time. I've got a needle in my arm. It hurts.

Hammond: Brush aside the pain. Remember, it isn't real, you're safe here.

Marrison: I think I hear it coming back. Yeah, I see it. It has, it's holding tools. It hurts to look at it, it keeps changing. Shifting. Hello? Can you hear me? Hello!

Hammond: How is it changing?

Marrison: I don't know, it's like it's not really moving. Just suddenly in a different place. Different shape. Its skin keeps moving. I…

Agent Marrison begins hyperventilating.

Marrison: It's doing something to my leg. It's cutting me! It hurts!

Hammond: Push the pain aside.

Marrison: It's, it's pulling the skin away. There's a needle, it's injecting something into my bone. Please, it hurts so much!

Hammond: Let's move on. You're alone now.

Agent Marrison's breathing returns to normal.

Marrison: They've done something to my legs. I can feel them bending. They're- wait, it's coming back again. Please, what are you doing to me.

Hammond: Listen to the sound of my voice. Lets move away from this point. Back to when you are alone.

Marrison: It's cutting me again! My stomach, please! Stop, it's-

Hammond: Focus on the sound of my voice, Sadie. You're safe. There's no one there to hurt you.

Marrison: It's putting something inside of me! No, get it out! Get it out of me!

Agent Marrison begins clawing at her abdomen.

Hammond: She's not responding to my voice, get her sedated, now!

Agent Marrison was sedated before she could inflict any serious harm on herself. Interviews with the other members of MTF Sigma-13 revealed similar patterns of events; being restrained against a surface while an anomalous entity performed a number of surgeries and procedures on them. Further examination has revealed near-microscopic scars and bone fissures that were missed on the initial examinations.

All members of MTF Sigma-13 were given amnestics to remove both sets of memories; it is theorised that the memories of the mountainous landscape were implanted to cover the memories of what actually occurred.
