Item #: SCP-1277
Object Class: Euclid Pending Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures:
The area around SCP-1277 is to be isolated and restricted from public access. Civilians who manage to gain unauthorized access are to be detained in the onsite Facility-42 and medically examined for cactus spines. Individuals who are confirmed to be uninfected are to be amnesticized and released. Infected individuals are to be sequestered and undergo a spiritual exorcism by Foundation occultists.
Vocalizations from SCP-1277 are to be dismissed as a hoax.
Description:
SCP-1277 is a Saguaro Cactus approximately 4 meters in height with two arms extending outwards from the main body. When an individual comes within 600 meters of SCP-1277, it will begin to emit vocalizations in the respective language that the individual speaks. Vocalizations include begging for water and help.
Should an individual come within 2 meters of SCP-1277, it will forcefully eject every spine on its body in an attempt to pierce the skin of the subject, who will then become an instance of SCP-1277-1. See addendum.
Instances of SCP-1277-1 will show signs of a Level 1 Spectral Possession. All instances of SCP-1277-1 appear to operate under one central consciousness spread amongst all infected individuals. If caught early, infected individuals can be cured by removal of the spikes. After an indeterminate period of time, SCP-1277-1 infections will need to be cured via exorcism.
Discovery:
SCP-1277 was discovered near the wreckage of a private plane that is confirmed to have crash landed in the Navarre Desert near Hollister, Texas. Rumors had spread about the existence of a 'haunted cactus' near the aforementioned plane, gaining the Foundation's attention. Field agents were deployed shortly afterwards and Containment Procedures were properly set up.
Addendum:
A containment breach occurred on 4/24/2018 wherein an SCP-1277-1 instance escaped and was lost in Hollister, Texas. SCP-1277-1 was missing and not re-discovered until it arrived at the home of civilians Lisa Meyers and Gregg Meyers.
VIDEO LOG
DATE: 4/24/2018
NOTE: Footage taken via CCTV cameras outside of house.
[BEGIN LOG]
15:47: SCP-1277-1 walks to the house and stands outside, looking at the front door. It paces back and forth for several minutes, anxiously pulling out its phone and looking at it a few times.
15:58: SCP-1277-1 walks to the backyard and attempts to peer in through a window, but the blinds are closed. He walks back to the front yard and hears the front door opening. The owners of the house walk outside, apparently not noticing SCP-1277-1's peeping. SCP-1277-1 stands back and looks at Lisa and Greggs as they walk away, holding hands. It waits until they're a sufficient distance away before heading back to the house.
16:06: The front door opens and SCP-1277-1 steps inside. It quickly rushes through the house and enters what is presumably Lisa and Gregg's bedroom. It tears open the drawers and tosses random items onto the floor before it finds a little black box. It opens it to reveal a wedding ring with a diamond in the middle. It falls over to the floor, clutches it to its chest and sobs loudly, rocking back and forth, punching the floor intermittently.
[END LOG]
SCP-1277-1 later returned to SCP-1277, where it willingly requested that the wedding ring be placed next to the cactus before it relinquished control over the possessed civilian, who was later amnesticized.
Since then, all SCP-1277 activities have ceased. Reclassification to Neutralized pending.
