NAC-007, circa 1985, as seen from Talnakh.

Item #: SCP-4030

NAC #: NAC-007

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4030 is contained within NAC-007, the Foundation designation for Norilsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. As Norilsk is not anomalous itself, it has been given an official Non-Anomalous Component (NAC) identification number (see Description).

The population of NAC-007 is to be monitered via Memetic Tracking Agent (MTA) 384 ("Diamond Dark") and various Foundation moles embedded within the city's masses. All citizens catalogued by MTA-384 are to be stored in Area-934; a camp situated 10 miles north of NAC-007. Persons residing in Talnakh are ignored by MTA-384, and are only to be utilized in containment via mandatory residential relocation when the population of NAC-007 drops below at least 50000 people. Persons from outside of both locations are completely ignored by MTA-384 and are to be amnesticized if necessary.

Subjects residing in NAC-007 travelling away from the city are to be tagged by MTA-384 as potentially hazardous, and in the event that SCP-4030-ß1 becomes active, said individuals will be rendered unconcious by MTA-384 through temporary disablement of the brain1.

Description: SCP-4030 is an entity located within the nickel mines underneath NAC-007; the city of Norilsk. Althogh SCP-4030 has never been visually or audibly percieved, SCP-4030's existence is supported by a third-hand cognitohazard the entity exhibits.

A third-hand cognitohazard (TH-Cognitohazard, THC) is a type of cognitohazard of which, unlike a first-hand cognitohazard, does not spread through direct perception. For example, if an individual were to view THC directly, they will not be affected by the entity's cognitohazardous nature. However, if an individual were to reside close to a THC, the anomaly will infect them subconciously, whereas the affected persons will visualize the THC primarily in one's subconcious. However, if a subject is directly aware of a THC, they will remain unaffected by it due to the acute knowledge of it2. SCP-4030 is the first anomaly to be classified as a THC3.

SCP-4030's cognitohazardous effects induce the following symptoms:

  • Acceptance of the hazardous conditions within NAC-007.
  • A desire to permanantly stay in or return to NAC-007.
  • A general compliance with Norilsk Nickel, despite working conditions presented by the company one might find unacceptable.

SCP-4030 is unable to affect those outside of NAC-007's political confines. And due to the symptoms induced by the entity (as listed above), it is assumed that SCP-4030's behavior must directly correscpond with the city itself.

≈30% of infected miners living in NAC-007 have dissappear within the mines anually. As SCP-4030 is a THC, it is believed that the dreams of residents depicting said workers dying or demanifesting while working is proof of SCP-4030's predatory nature. These dreams have depicted deceased or missing subjects suddenly dissappearing, rotting away in a matter of seconds, or being pulled further into the mines by an unknown force4.
